Allergic to Soy?

soy bean allergy Yesterday, while writing about the healthy chinese food...i realized soy was one of the healthy food ingredients in chinese cuisine. But many have the tendency of not digesting soy well,or developing allergies through its intake.A soy allergy means that the person cannot tolerate the soy protein and must avoid all possible sources. Many packaged foods contain some form of soy product. There are a few words on the labels which indicates the presence of soy in the food product. If any of these appears on a label, it is best to avoid the food.

Soy Allergy: Avoid These Ingredients
  1. tofu (soybean curds)
  2. miso
  3. mono-diglyceride
  4. natto (Japanese fermented soybeans)
  5. okara (soy pulp)
  6. tempeh
  7. TSF (textured soy flour)
  8. TSP (textured soy protein)
  9. TVP (textured vegetable protein)
  10. yuba(tofu skin)
  11.  edamame
  12. soya, soja, soybean, soyabean
  13. soy protein (isolate / concentrate)
Textured vegetable protein can come from different vegetable sources, including soy.
You may also see the words "soy lecithin" on a label. Soy lecithin is a soy fat, not protein, and is often tolerated by those allergic to the soy protein. However, in some circumstances, very sensitive individuals can react to it.
So,check the labels before you buy or eat food products and if you are allergic to soy.
